Install OpenShift OKD in Ubuntu VM 16.04

Screenshot 1 from "Install OpenShift OKD in Ubuntu VM 16.04"

I am choosing OpenShift for deployment of my application as i found out that it is created on top of kubernetes.

I installed OpenShift in just a few steps.

Prerequisite

It needs Docker, so install Docker before installing OpenShift.

Install OpenShift

Next, You can download OpenShift from here. OKD is the community distribution of OpenShift. We are going to install OKD in the below steps.

Once its downloaded extract with command

tar xvzf openshift*.tar.gz

Go to the newly created folder

cd openshift-origin-client-tools*/

Move the kubectl and oc binaries to bin folder

sudo mv  oc kubectl  /usr/local/bin/

Check if your OC command is working by

oc version

Next, you need to configure it to use insecure registry, so

cat << EOF | sudo tee /etc/docker/daemon.json
{
    "insecure-registries" : [ "172.30.0.0/16" ]
}
EOF

Restart Docker

sudo systemctl restart docker

Now, you can start the cluster using

oc cluster up

In the next post I have explained how to open WebUI.
